There are two types of the IELTS test:  IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. 
IELTS Academic is usually required for educational purposes whereas IELTS General Training is usually required for immigration purposes.
The difference between both versions is the content, context and purpose of the tasks. All other features, such as timing allocation, length of written responses and reporting of scores, are the same.
